Spring Home Maintenance Tips for Central Florida Homeowners

Spring is here!

For homeowners in Central Florida, that means it is time to start tackling some spring maintenance tasks. With warmer weather on the way, there are a few things you can do to prepare your home for the summer months. And if you’re thinking of selling your house, this is a great list to tackle before going to the market!  Here are some tips to get you started:

1. Check the AC Unit

With summer temperatures on the horizon, now is the time to check your air conditioning unit. Clean or replace the filter and consider hiring a professional to inspect and tune up the system, as well as clean out the air ducts. According to Energy.gov, regular maintenance can help your AC unit operate more efficiently, saving you money on your energy bills.

2. Clean Gutters and Downspouts

Spring is a good time to clear out any debris that has accumulated in your gutters and downspouts over the fall and winter months. A clogged gutter system can cause water to back up and overflow, ultimately causing damage to your home’s walls and foundation.  It is important to keep them clear!

3. Inspect the Roof

With hurricane season right around the corner, now is the time to make sure the roof is in tip-top shape! Inspect it for any damage, such as missing shingles or cracks. Repairing any damage now can prevent more costly repairs down the road.

4. Prepare the Lawn

Spring is the perfect time to start preparing your lawn for the summer months. Consider aerating the lawn to promote healthy growth, and apply a fertilizer to give it a boost. In addition, make sure you are watering appropriately now that the warmer months are ahead.

5. Clean the Windows

Fall weather can leave your windows dirty and grimy. Take the time to clean both the inside and outside of your windows to let in more natural light and improve your home’s curb appeal.

6. Service the Lawn Mower

If you have a lawn mower, now is the time to give it a tune-up. Change the oil, replace the spark plug, and sharpen the blades to ensure it’s ready to go when you need it.

7. Test Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors

Spring is a good time to test your home’s smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Replace batteries if necessary, and ensure that all detectors are working properly.

8. Pressure Washing

Now is a great time to bring out the pressure washer before the heat of summer is upon us.  It is a great way to clean the driveway and sidewalks, greatly improving your homes curb appeal.

By following these spring maintenance tips, you can help keep your home in good shape and avoid costly repairs down the road.
